The Poetry of Richard Le Gallienne

Richard Thomas Gallienne, born in Liverpool in 1866, transitioned from an accounting career to become a professional writer, publishing his first work, My Ladies' Sonnets, in 1887. His literary journey included a stint as literary secretary to the successful playwright Wilson Barrett, contributions to The Yellow Book, and a diverse range of poetry and essays, despite personal challenges, including the loss of his first wife and a tumultuous second marriage. After relocating to the United States and later settling in France, Gallienne remained committed to writing, navigating financial hardships and refusing to produce propaganda during wartime, until his death in 1947.
