The History of Rasselas

Samuel Johnson's Rasselas (1759) explores the elusive nature of happiness as Rasselas and his companions leave the comforts of the 'happy valley' to seek their 'choice of life.' Throughout their journey, they encounter various individuals, including scholars, astronomers, and poets, who share different perspectives on existence. Johnson's wit and insight raise profound questions about the human condition, making this tale not only a reflection on happiness but also a timeless exploration of life's choices.
