A Tale of a Tub

In "A Tale of a Tub," Jonathan Swift presents an allegorical satire exploring the complexities of religion and politics through the lives of three brothers—Martin, Peter, and Jack—who embody different factions of the Christian faith: Anglicanism, Roman Catholicism, and dissenting beliefs. Each brother inherits a coat from their father, representing religious practice, but they ultimately disregard their father's wishes and alter their coats, leading to conflict. This work, Swift's first major publication and one of his personal favorites, critiques the nature of faith and adherence to tradition.
