The Beggar Student

In Osamu Dazai's captivating novella, The Beggar Student, a fictional version of the author grapples with his inadequacies after submitting a disappointing manuscript. As he wanders through a Tokyo park, he engages in a spirited debate with a high-school dropout, leading to an unexpected performance as a live narrator for a film screening that same night. Blending humor with elements of destitution and intellectual rivalry, this novella showcases Dazai's sharp wit and the intricate themes reminiscent of No Longer Human.
