In 1890, W. B. Yeats and Ernest Rhys established a poetry club centered at the iconic 'Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese' pub, where poets, including Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas, gathered to share their work and enjoy camaraderie. Known as 'the tragic generation,' these men navigated ambitious dreams and challenging lives, crafting poetry that pushed societal boundaries while reflecting their Victorian context. The club produced two anthologies in the early 1890s, offering a glimpse into a vibrant literary world marked by talent and a shared passion for verse, despite its exclusively male membership.
