In the vibrant city-state of Saraykeht, known for its peace and cultural richness, the economy relies on the powerful and captive spirit Seedless, bound to the poet-sorcerer Heshai. As the menacing Galt empire aims to exploit Heshai's downfall to annihilate Saraykeht, an ordinary laborer named Otah is thrust into a critical role. Recruited as a bodyguard, he uncovers a deadly plot and realizes he holds the fate of the city in his hands.
