Robert J. Allison is a professor and chair of history at Suffolk University and has taught American history at Harvard Extension School since 1993. He writes accessible nonfiction on American history, particularly the American Revolution, colonial America, Boston, the early republic, and U.S. military and naval history. His books include The Crescent Obscured, Stephen Decatur: American Naval Hero, A Short History of Boston, The Boston Massacre, and The American Revolution: A Concise History.
