Tony Rafael is a Los Angeles-based journalist and nonfiction author who spent years investigating Southern California street gangs. Writing under the name Tony Rafael, he researched and wrote The Mexican Mafia (2007), drawing on interviews with gang members, law-enforcement officials, and participants in criminal trials; he later co-wrote Confessions of a Cartel Hit Man with Martin Corona.
