Manning Marable (1950–2011) was an American historian, political scientist, social critic, and prolific author who taught at Columbia University, where he founded the Institute for Research in African-American Studies. He wrote and edited numerous books and scholarly works on race, politics, African American history, and social justice, including How Capitalism Underdeveloped Black America and Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention, which won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for History posthumously.
