Prince Rogers Nelson (1958–2016), best known as the musician Prince, also developed a distinctive literary voice through lyrics, screenwriting, and autobiographical prose. Before his death, he began writing a memoir with Dan Piepenbring; the surviving manuscript, archival materials, and Prince’s original treatment for Purple Rain were published posthumously as The Beautiful Ones in 2019.
