Marlin F. “Whitey” Groft was a World War II veteran of the 1st Marine Raider Battalion, known as Edson’s Raiders. Late in life, he documented his wartime experiences in Bloody Ridge and Beyond: A World War II Marine’s Memoir of Edson’s Raiders in the Pacific, published in 2014 with writer Larry Alexander. The memoir recounts his service in the Pacific, including Tulagi, Guadalcanal, and the Battle of Bloody Ridge.
