James Alexander Thom was an American journalist-turned-novelist known for meticulously researched historical fiction about Native Americans, pioneers, explorers, and the American frontier. After careers at The Indianapolis Star, The Saturday Evening Post, and Indiana University, he became a full-time novelist around 1980. His major works include Follow the River, Long Knife, Panther in the Sky, Sign-Talker, and Saint Patrick’s Battalion.
