Rodney Stark (1934–2022) was an American sociologist and author who began his writing career as a newspaper reporter before earning a doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley. He wrote more than 30 books and numerous scholarly articles, focusing primarily on religion, Christianity, religious movements, and the relationship between faith and society. His notable works include The Rise of Christianity, The Triumph of Christianity, God’s Battalions, Cities of God, and The Victory of Reason.
