Bill Carter is an American journalist and author who covered the television industry for nearly three decades at The New York Times, including 26 years as the paper’s chief television correspondent. He is best known for The Late Shift, The War for Late Night, and Desperate Networks, behind-the-scenes nonfiction accounts of television’s personalities, programming, and corporate power struggles. He has also written for Rolling Stone, Outside, and Men’s Journal and served as a media analyst for CNN.
