Walter R. Brooks (1886–1958) was an American writer and magazine editor who became a full-time author in the 1940s. He wrote 26 children’s books about Freddy the Pig and the other talking animals of Bean Farm, combining humor, adventure, and social satire. Brooks also created the talking horse Mr. Ed in a series of short stories that later inspired the television sitcom.
