Rosemary Sutcliff (1920–1992) was an English author who wrote more than sixty books, chiefly historical fiction for children and young adults, as well as novels for adults, myth and legend retellings, nonfiction, and scripts for radio and television. She began publishing in 1950 and became renowned for vividly researched stories set in periods including Roman Britain, the Anglo-Saxon era, the Middle Ages, and the Arthurian world; her acclaimed works include The Eagle of the Ninth, The Lantern Bearers, and The Shining Company.
