Arthur Koestler (1905–1983) was a Hungarian-British author and journalist whose career ranged across novels, reportage, autobiography, political polemic, and cultural criticism. He gained international fame with Darkness at Noon (1940), an anti-totalitarian novel shaped by his disillusionment with Stalinism, and later wrote influential works on the history of science, psychology, biology, and human culture.
