Marguerite Henry (1902–1997) was an American children’s author who wrote 59 books, best known for stories about horses and other animals. She sold her first story at age 11 and began publishing books in the 1940s; her breakthrough novel, Justin Morgan Had a Horse, was followed by classics including Misty of Chincoteague and King of the Wind. King of the Wind won the Newbery Medal, while several of her other books received Newbery Honors.
