Maurice Druon (1918–2009) was a French novelist, playwright, essayist, and member of the Académie française. He won the Prix Goncourt in 1948 for The Great Families and became internationally known for The Accursed Kings, a seven-volume series of medieval historical novels published between 1955 and 1977. He also co-wrote the French Resistance anthem "Chant des Partisans" with his uncle Joseph Kessel.
