Stephen Kotkin is an American historian and author who taught at Princeton University for more than three decades and is now a senior fellow at Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute and Hoover Institution. His writing focuses on Soviet and Russian history, communism, authoritarianism, geopolitics, and global political history. He is best known for Magnetic Mountain, Armageddon Averted, Uncivil Society, and his multi-volume biography of Joseph Stalin.
