He began his journalism career at The National in the United Arab Emirates and has written for publications including The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Guardian, Foreign Affairs, and Foreign Policy. He co-authored the New York Times bestseller ISIS: Inside the Army of Terror with Michael Weiss and founded New Lines Magazine, where he serves as editor-in-chief.
