Gail Tsukiyama is an American novelist born in San Francisco to a Chinese mother from Hong Kong and a Japanese father from Hawaii. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English with an emphasis in creative writing from San Francisco State University, initially focused on poetry, and later became the bestselling author of novels including Women of the Silk, The Samurai’s Garden, A Hundred Flowers, The Color of Air, and The Brightest Star. She has received the Academy of American Poets Award and the PEN/Oakland Josephine Miles Award, taught creative writing, and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
