Patrick Dennis was the pen name of Edward Everett Tanner III (1921–1976), an American author who wrote sixteen books, including several under the pseudonym Virginia Rowans. He achieved major success with the comic novel Auntie Mame (1955), followed by Around the World with Auntie Mame (1958), and became the first writer to have three books simultaneously on the New York Times bestseller list in 1956. His work is known for satire, extravagant characters, social comedy, and playful parody.
