Harry Homewood was a World War II submariner who served in the Asiatic Fleet and later made eleven war patrols in the Southwest Pacific. After the war, he became Chicago bureau chief for Newsweek, chief editorial writer for the Chicago Sun-Times, and host of a syndicated PBS television program. He wrote six books, including submarine and military novels such as Final Harbor, Silent Sea, Torpedo!, and O God of Battles, and died in 1984.
