Fred Gipson (1908–1973) was an American author and journalist from the Texas Hill Country. After working as a newspaper reporter, he began publishing Western stories in magazines before writing novels, including Hound-Dog Man, The Home Place, Old Yeller, and Savage Sam. He is best known for Old Yeller (1956), a Newbery Honor book that was adapted into a popular Disney film.
