Ann Patchett is an American novelist, essayist, and memoirist whose first novel, The Patron Saint of Liars, was published in 1992. She is best known for literary novels including Bel Canto, Commonwealth, The Dutch House, and Tom Lake, as well as nonfiction books such as Truth & Beauty and These Precious Days. Her work has received major honors including the PEN/Faulkner Award, the Women's Prize for Fiction, and the National Humanities Medal.
