Patricia MacLachlan (1938–2022) was an award-winning American author of more than 60 novels and picture books for children. She began her writing career in her mid-thirties and became best known for Sarah, Plain and Tall, which won the Newbery Medal and was adapted into a television film; she also co-wrote teleplays based on its sequels. Her work often explored family, loss, kindness, hope, and life in rural communities.
