Charlie A. Beckwith (1929–1994) was a U.S. Army colonel, Special Forces officer, and founder and first commander of Delta Force. He co-wrote Delta Force: A Memoir by the Founder of the U.S. Military’s Most Secretive Special-Operations Unit with Donald Knox, drawing on his experiences in Vietnam, the British SAS, and the failed 1980 Iran hostage-rescue mission. The book remains his principal published work and a notable military memoir.
