Marius Gabriel is the pen name of South African-born British novelist Marius Gabriel Cipolla. While studying Shakespeare at Newcastle University, he began writing romance fiction to support his postgraduate research and sold his first novel to Mills & Boon in 1983 under the pseudonym Madeleine Ker, eventually publishing more than 30 romances. Writing as Marius Gabriel, he became known for historical fiction, mystery, and thriller novels, including The Designer, which won the 2018 Romantic Novelists’ Association Award for Historical Romance.
