Francis Ray (1944–2013) was a native Texan and New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than 50 novels. She began writing in 1987 while working as a nurse, publishing her first book in 1992, and became known for romance series including the Graysons of New Mexico, Grayson Friends, Invincible Women, and Taggart/Falcon. Her novel Incognito was adapted into a BET television movie, and she was recognized as a pioneer of African American romance.
