Kitty Neale was the pen name of Brenda Warren, a Sunday Times bestselling author who grew up in Battersea and set many of her gritty, emotional novels in working-class South London. She began writing her first novel, A Cuckoo in Candle Lane, around 2000 and went on to publish numerous family sagas, often featuring poverty, resilience, secrets and wartime London. After health problems limited her writing, her daughter Sam continued producing Kitty Neale novels under the name; Brenda Warren died in October 2024.
