Anna Jean Mayhew is a Charlotte, North Carolina, native whose fiction draws on her memories of growing up in the segregated South. Her debut novel, The Dry Grass of August, won the Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Fiction, and her second novel, Tomorrow’s Bread, explores the destruction of a historic Black neighborhood through urban renewal. She has also served as a writer-in-residence and as a trustee of the North Carolina Writers’ Network.
