Alfred Birnbaum (born 1955) is an American literary and cultural translator who was raised in Japan and has worked as a freelance translator since 1980. He is best known for bringing several of Haruki Murakami’s early novels—including Dance Dance Dance, A Wild Sheep Chase, and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World—to English, and has also translated works by Miyuki Miyabe, Natsuki Ikezawa, and Burmese author Nu Nu Yi.
