Daniel Keyes (1927–2014) was an American author best known for Flowers for Algernon, which began as an award-winning short story in 1959 and was expanded into a Nebula Award-winning novel in 1966. He also wrote psychological and suspense fiction, including The Fifth Sally and The Asylum Prophecies, and nonfiction such as The Minds of Billy Milligan. Keyes taught creative writing at Wayne State University and Ohio University, where he later became professor emeritus.
