Sonia Patel is a first-generation Indian American author born in New York and raised in Hawaii. A child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, she began her writing career with the critically acclaimed young adult novel Rani Patel in Full Effect, a William C. Morris Award finalist. She has since published the YA novels Jaya and Rasa: A Love Story, Bloody Seoul, and Gita Desai Is Not Here to Shut Up, as well as short fiction addressing mental health and social issues.
