Peter Maas (1929–2001) was an American journalist and author known for pioneering narrative investigative nonfiction. He gained prominence with The Valachi Papers, his account of Mafia informant Joe Valachi, and later wrote Serpico, about New York police officer Frank Serpico, as well as bestsellers including Underboss, Manhunt, and In a Child’s Name. He also published fiction, including Made in America.
