Alex Berenson is an American author and journalist who began his writing career as a reporter for The Denver Post, TheStreet.com, and The New York Times, where he covered business, pharmaceuticals, financial fraud, and Iraq. He left the Times in 2010 to write fiction full time. His John Wells series of espionage thrillers began with The Faithful Spy, which won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel, and he has also written nonfiction on finance, cannabis, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
