Archer Mayor is an American mystery author best known for the New York Times bestselling Joe Gunther series, which began with Open Season in 1988 and is set largely in Vermont. His novels are noted for realistic police procedures and draw on his experience as a detective, firefighter/EMT, and death investigator for Vermont’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Before focusing on fiction, he also wrote historical nonfiction and worked as a journalist, editor, researcher, and medical illustrator.
