Simon Mawer (1948–2025) was a British novelist who lived in Italy and began publishing fiction with Chimera in 1989, after working as a biology teacher. He wrote novels blending literary fiction with history, science, espionage, faith, and psychological suspense, including Mendel’s Dwarf, The Gospel of Judas, The Glass Room, Trapeze, Tightrope, Prague Spring, and Ancestry. The Glass Room was shortlisted for the 2009 Booker Prize, and Tightrope won the 2016 Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction.
