Ron Rash is an American novelist, poet, and short-story writer whose career has focused on the people, history, culture, and landscapes of the southern Appalachian Mountains. He has published novels including Serena, One Foot in Eden, The Cove, and The Caretaker, along with numerous short-story and poetry collections. He teaches creative writing and Appalachian studies at Western Carolina University and has received the O. Henry Prize three times and the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award.
