Joyce Maynard is an American novelist, memoirist, journalist, and essayist who began publishing stories as a teenager and gained national attention with her 1972 New York Times Magazine essay while a Yale freshman. She later worked as a New York Times reporter and columnist and has written numerous novels, memoirs, and true-crime works, including To Die For, Labor Day, At Home in the World, The Best of Us, The Bird Hotel, and How the Light Gets In. Several of her novels have been adapted for film.
