Philip Caputo was an American novelist, memoirist, and journalist whose writing career began at the Chicago Tribune, where he worked as an investigative reporter and foreign correspondent in Rome, Beirut, Saigon, and Moscow. After leaving the newspaper in 1977, he devoted himself to books and magazine writing, producing novels, short-story collections, memoirs, and nonfiction. His best-known work is the Vietnam War memoir A Rumor of War; he was also a co-winner of the 1972 Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting.
