Nancy MacLean is an American historian and author whose writing focuses on twentieth-century U.S. history, race, gender, labor, social movements, and public policy. She is the author of five books, including Behind the Mask of Chivalry, Freedom Is Not Enough, and the National Book Award finalist Democracy in Chains. Her work has appeared in scholarly journals and major publications, and she has been a fellow of the Society of American Historians since 2010.
