Dana Mackenzie is an award-winning freelance science writer and mathematician with a doctorate from Princeton. After teaching mathematics at Duke University and Kenyon College, he retrained in science communication at UC Santa Cruz and began a writing career focused on making mathematics and science accessible to general readers. He is the author or coauthor of books including The Big Splat, The Universe in Zero Words, and The Book of Why, and also writes about chess.
