Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette (1873–1954), known simply as Colette, was a French novelist, memoirist, journalist, performer, and woman of letters. She began her writing career with the Claudine novels, initially published under her first husband’s name, and later established herself as a major author in her own right. Her fiction and autobiographical works, including Chéri, The Vagabond, Gigi, and Claudine’s House, are known for their sensuality, psychological insight, and explorations of love, sexuality, gender, and women’s independence.
