Sonia Sanchez (born 1934) is an American poet, playwright, essayist, and educator who became a leading voice of the Black Arts Movement. She has published more than 20 books, including poetry collections such as Homecoming, We a BaddDDD People, I've Been a Woman, and Does Your House Have Lions?, often addressing Black identity, womanhood, racism, and social justice. She has also written plays, children's literature, and critical essays, and served as Philadelphia's first poet laureate.
