Dame Jilly Cooper OBE (1937–2025) was an English journalist and author whose writing career began as a local-newspaper reporter before she became a long-running newspaper columnist. She published her first book, How to Stay Married, in 1969 and later wrote permissive romances, children’s books, and nonfiction. She became best known for the bestselling Rutshire Chronicles, beginning with Riders (1985), celebrated for their racy romance, humor, social satire, and glamorous sporting and media settings.
