William L. Shirer (1904–1993) was an American journalist, foreign correspondent, radio broadcaster, and historian. He reported from Europe for the Chicago Tribune and CBS, becoming one of “Murrow’s Boys” and a major eyewitness chronicler of Nazi Germany and World War II. His influential books include Berlin Diary, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, The Collapse of the Third Republic, and a multivolume autobiography.
