Hisham Matar is a Libyan-American-British novelist, memoirist, and essayist born in New York to Libyan parents and raised partly in Tripoli and Cairo. His debut novel, In the Country of Men, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and he went on to publish Anatomy of a Disappearance, the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir The Return, A Month in Siena, and the novel My Friends. His writing often explores exile, political repression, memory, family, loss, and identity.
