Phyllis Reynolds Naylor was an American author who began publishing short stories as a teenager and became a full-time writer in 1960 after working as a teacher and editor. She published her first children’s book in 1965 and went on to write more than 135 books, primarily for children and young adults. She was best known for the Newbery Medal-winning Shiloh quartet, the Alice series, and numerous mystery, adventure, historical, and supernatural novels.
